The Age of Obama is not just the time of our new president. It is not just the collapse of the conservative perspective or demise of the Republican Party agenda. It is the total change from everything known and expected for the last 10 (or 20) centuries into the developing new reality of life upon our Planet Earth where anyone who is upset about their local situation has access to the means to disrupt the peaceful functioning of everyone else.

What the tunnel vision of Bush43/Cheney saw as Evil terrorists who required a return to the 11th century idea of Crusades to the Holy Land (and the promised benefits from trade in the resources of that region) has now become proliferating examples of how global profiteering no longer works very well. The timing has changed and those who just continue the old ways without understanding the meaning of this new and different timing will be bewildered and terrorized by their cable news reports as this Age of Obama unfolds.

The thinking that seemed to work in the 20th century is no longer useful. New thinking requires novel insights and techniques that will be the hallmark of this new Age of Obama.

The Age of Obama is much more than a change in century and other calendar details. However, the change in century in 2001 reflects major developments in the course of culture and warfare highlighted over the last 500 years from the two core changes of the prior millennium known as the “modern” since the 11th century. The term “modern” refers to “modus hodie” or the style of today that is giving up trying to hold on to now unavailable past glory. Instead, the focus changed to fantasies of what could be developing in the future. The first year of the new century offered insights into what was brewing.

The calendar tells us we are in the first decade of a new century, a new millennium and a new Great Age, which gives cause for both a great depth and extent of change from anything our still “modern” historians are clearly aware. Methods and perspectives which have proved themselves throughout several millennia are the only background for understanding the changes as the bedrock of the 20th centuries and the modern millennium crumbles away in each of our daily experience of the Age of Obama.

Those mathematical and symbolic techniques arising from the global insights of the 6th century B.C.E. were declared pagan myth by the new “modern” universities of the medieval Scholastics. Their notions of “modern science” based upon their translation of each of the Books of Aristotle as a new and different “modern science” remain the basis of what is still called modern science, based upon Aristotle’s worldview and his teaching that a proper Greek sentence is based upon nouns and verbs, translated as “matter” and “energy.”

With the trauma of the Black Death in the next century after the establishment of this Scholastic university system, only books in the official library (which survived the Plague untouched) were available for continued study and learning. Library Books became ultimate authority and the popular fan clubs of major books and their celebrity authors became the new paradigms of the official sciences.

For many centuries, the quaint theories and fantasies of these “modern sciences” made little impact upon society in general, still traumatized by experience of the Black Death and unable to come to grips with the value of individual living humans. It took until the early 20th century to fully implement the technological vision of Roger Bacon in the trucks, planes, submarines, and machine guns of World War I.

Now as we complete a century of fully implementing the fantasies and notions of the medieval Scholastics, all the things they ignored as just the ‘environment’ or surroundings of their chosen focus are beginning to overwhelm our “modern science.” The limits of our technological marvels which have become our recent environmental nightmares are simply the logical consequences of their original properties ignored to focus upon some other detail thought beneficial. DDT was always poison, non-biodegradable plastics were always going to keep their form; fossil fuels always burn to carbon dioxide exhaust into the atmosphere. The atmosphere was always a limited, thin layer above our world.

The Age of Obama represents dozens of dimensions of change, only a few of which anyone is clearly aware of at this point. The question is not so much how much will change in this tumultuous Age of Obama; rather what it is that will not change NOW. To a great extent what will remain and what we can count upon through this transition depends upon how we understand and react to such total upheaval of everything expected or remembered from the 20th century and before.

The general conservative perspective as represented by the Republicans in Congress are quickly demonstrating how those holding fast to what used to be working tactics and ideology are finding themselves left behind as an obsolete laughing stock. Totally new and different perspectives, ideas, methods and thinking are all that will survive this impending total change and universal upheaval.

Meaning is how each of us makes sense of events as we perceive them. Western philosophy assumes everything is the work of God in Heaven, so all meaning must be as things appear to an observer up atop the highest mountain. However, meaning is a human notion about how we organize our feelings (biochemicals in our blood) with our thoughts and perceptions (nerve synapse firings in our brain) to maintain an expected overall image, pattern or gestalt we are comfortable with as the background of our daily life.

The range of possible patterns or gestalt that we humans are capable of perceiving is generally small. The important detail is which of our set of gestalt is appropriate to this particular moment or timing. The other major unknown is what determines our current state or situation? Is it a matter of caprice—either our own or some other powerful entity? Or is it an objective situation which can be observed, mapped and analyzed?

The medieval Scholastic monks and their university trained “modern scientists” implicitly assumed total control of everything by their God in Heaven in ways impossible for humans to know or understand. Determined in ways beyond any human calculation or description became known as “random” when the explicit recitation of the name of God was dropped from the university science curriculum.

Part of the global insight of the 6th century B.C.E. was the realization that range of possible gestalt of human perception could be correlated to the range of observed natural phenomena. This implied that specific events were not the capricious actions of supernatural forces or random events without rhyme or reason. Rather they were part of an overall process affecting everyone and everything like the tides and currents of the oceans.

The relationship of the changing positions of the sun through the day and through the year to the seasons and the crops and to farming was an obvious correspondence.
