Election08 duel of the Titans: Hillary vs Rudy

Election08 duel between the two most prominent politicians from New York leaves the rest of the field playing catch up without much success. What is the special magic that pits these two against each other again (they originally were expected to square off for the NY Senate seat) and keeps the other candidates fighting over their coattails?

The Election08 duel is unusual astrologically compared to other Federal election days (as can be seen on the US Elections page). The situation after the election, where Pluto enters Capricorn for the first time in the history of the nation, makes the inauguration of the 44th President of the U.S. unique. This election08 duel shaping up between Rudy Giuliani and Hillary Clinton only makes sense from their astrological charts.

Accurate birth times for anyone is always a challenge. Many of the candidates for President in 2008 have no clearly published birth times. Fortunately, what is important about their candidacy can be gleaned from their X-Ray Eye charts which are derived by integrating the ladder technique of Marc E. Jones’ Sabian Astrology with the Flux Tome perspective on the I Ching of Frank R. Kegan.

Since and X-Ray Eye chart uses on the sign positions of the planets, no houses at all, the only exact details are the Sabian Symbols for the planetary positions. The planets change their degrees depending upon the speed of their daily motion. The moon averages 13+degrees a day, so without a birth time it like the houses is too uncertain to use. Election08 duel is not a matter requiring exact times, just a general impression may well do OK.

Most of the other planets can be accurate, even for an approximate or even unknown birth time. The details belong to a description of the X-Ray Eye technique rather than this exploration of the election08 duel between Hillary and Rudy. Other than there individual X-Ray Eye charts the other vital detail is their planetary positions in relation to the national chart of the U.S.

The national natal chart, the horoscope of the Declaration of Independence, is a matter of deep and passionate debate amongst astrologers. Generally each astrologer sees that birth time to be what it would take to make the national chart as close to his own personal chart or ideal chart as possible. The historical record is remarkably vague upon the question of exactly when did the new born nation utter its first declaration.

Rudhyar gives a 5 pm time, which fits his personal perspective well but in no way comports with the reports of the discussion of the final draft carrying late into the night. The actual signing of the Declaration did not occur until several months later when a fine presentation copy had been embossed for the occasion. The version in the Archives already has the date July 4th 1776 written large across its front, something that could not have been part of the original debate.

Marc E. Jones gives a birth chart for the Declaration based upon his rectification of the time from the events of U.S. history. The one difficulty with this chart is that its birth time is before 2 AM the night of 3-4 July which is totally before the Continental Congress ever began their debate. Technically, the independence of the thirteen colonies was voted several days earlier on a simple motion only Constitutional law professors care about.

I use the Marc E. Jones chart and find it most compelling, but it will have to wait until I write my Declaration of Independence page to explain how and why the United States was born and its first breath in its Declaration of its independence was not a democratic vote but a quiet act in the middle of the night before. Election08 duel requires only the broad outlines of the U.S. National birth chart.

In the election08 duel of Rudy and Hillary they are both born within 4 years of each other. Though Hillary is a true post-war baby boomer and Rudy is born while that war raged. There relationship to the U.S. National birth chart is a bit different. Rudy has the classic mark of connection to the national mood—his Uranus is within 5 minutes of arc of an exact conjunction to the Uranus of the Declaration of Independence.

This is the classic and absolute indicator of a strong identification of the American people to a presidential candidate. It explains why he holds such a lead in preference polls even though his actual positions and personality is totally disagreed with by his Republican primary voters. He is the embodiment of that same creative genius felt as the hallmark of the newborn U.S. nation (Uranus rising in U.S chart).

Uranus seems to be near the zenith in Rudy’s chart only on the 9th house side. The only planet in Rudy’s chart that is in the 10th house of public esteem and status is his Saturn which is not a happy placement. Let me Leave the house positions aside, since they depend upon an accurate birth time that is not clear for either party in the election08 duel.

Rudy has his sun within a 2 degree orb of conjunct to his Uranus. This gives him his explosive temper and sudden changes in life partners and other things that seem to come like a bolt from the blue to change the clear direction of his individual quest. His identification with the National identity of creative independence is rock solid. Not quite as certain is the relationship between this image and Rudy himself in his own terms.

In terms of Election08 duel Rudy also has his Saturn in that same sign of Gemini—though further away—in the degree whose Sabian Symbol is: A man is leaving a courtroom with mixed feelings of relief and determination; he has just passed through bankruptcy. This is an image the first-responders of the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11/01 would immediately recognize as that of their Mayor that day. After the attack in 1993, against the advice of his security experts, Rudy put his emergency operations center in the basement of the WTC.

Rudy was walking about the streets of New York in the smoke and debris of the terrorist attacks because he had no emergency center to return to, it had been destroyed in the attack. Having escaped responsibility for those liabilities, Rudy is now enjoying that bankruptcy relief to the fullest crowing about being the Mayor on the streets during the 9/11 attacks.

It works for Rudy as he 1) has the Saturn symbol for successfully being relieved of his bankruptcy and 2) his image in the national psyche is that of his Uranus on the national Uranus. Together these two factors send him into election08 duel with the slick advantage of the strong support for him personally of the Republican base.

A closer look at the details of that degree shows some of the problems of his shining image. The Sabian Symbol for the 9th degree of Gemini is: “A medieval archer stands with the ease of one wholly sure of himself, bow in hand and quiver filled with arrows.”

This is what the security-minded are looking for, a strong, confident, fellow at ease with his weapons at hand and abilities having a full quiver of arrows for the upcoming fight. The limit of this image is that he is a medieval archer, like the longbows men that helped Henry V win so glorious a victory at Agincourt. Against any enemy except medieval French mounted knights, this archer is in big trouble.

Look at Rudy’s sun sign degree, 8th in Gemini: “A great industrial plant is closed down and around it mills a crowd of agitators and striking workmen.” This is a great image of personal power shown in the first flush of successful action. The initial shutdown of a labor strike is the most exciting for the strikers. As the action goes on, the reaction of other parties and the toll of time on the picket lines grows. But that comes later.

In terms of election08 duel, Rudy represents the great image and the ability to get the nation into massive shows of Rudy’s power and self-confidence. Looking at his X-Ray Eye chart overall tells the rest of the story. All Rudy’s planets are in the signs of Taurus to Libra with Scorpio through Aries empty. This is the pattern known as NOTHING BELOW THE WAIST.

It is a pattern that has a complete abdication of any involvement in personal relationships. Normally, these natives have a strong wife who they stick with forever and she handles all issues involving relationship. In Rudy’s case his ego and the disruption of the Uranus Sun conjunction make that impossible. However, his inclination that way can be seen in his cell phone call from his current wife during a major speech which he insisted upon taking and fawning over her.

That is Rudy from his chart as he pummels away at Hillary in this election08 duel neatly divided into separate but equal primary battles at this point.

Looking at Hillary’s chart we find a far different picture from Rudy’s in terms of the Election08 duel. Hillary has no planets in Capricorn or Aquarius which forms the basis of her public image and strong resistance by so many of the electorate. This lack of planets in Area One of the X-Ray Eye (and planets in all other areas) gives her the X-Ray Eye pattern of NO GROUNDING IN THE WORLD. This is one of the more benign chart formations for the native herself.

There isn’t any personal blind spot focus or even any concentration or isolation of planets to form moving lines in her natal oracle. This gives her the natal oracle pattern of hexagram 44 (Lady Luck) without moving lines. This relates the hexagram 44 of the I Ching, the hexagram of the powerful woman who comes up behind the 5 yang lines (men) and bests them all.

This causes Hillary image problems on two fronts. First is the problem of being a powerful woman who goes her own way, taking on a group of male opponents let alone beating them. The second is not being clearly her family’s daughter and her husband’s home based helpmate. She is a woman with her own agenda and her own powers which is unusual in general and deeply disturbing to many traditional folks of all stripes.

The major dispute over Hillary’s birth time is whether it is about 8 Am or 8 pm which is a matter of about 7 degrees in her moon position. Either way, her moon is in Pisces, giving her individual sustainment from feeling tones. She picks up on the emotional vibes around her and can gear her reactions to them. Beyond that, she is 10 days younger than me with many similar planetary positions to mine.

Hillary’s connection the U.S. national chart is the trine to within 30 minutes of arc between her Sun and the National Venus. This is not the clear connection of the conjunction or opposition; however it indicates her individual quest is to achieve what the nation loves to acquire. More traditionally, Hillary has her sun in Scorpio or an individual quest for power and passion in the 3rd degree: “At a clearing in pioneer days in the forest, all the neighbors have gathered to assist in a happy house-raising.”

Here is interest in community co-operation that terrifies her opponents as collectivization and socialism and gives rise to her “it takes a village to raise a child” beliefs. In the election08 duel there will be many points of contention between Rudy and Hillary. Most will involve what would follow from Rudy’s strong actions as against what might be the appearance of Hillary’s attempts to rally general support to national problems.
