Election Results 1980- 2008 Clearly Explained
by X-Ray Eye Flux Tome Oracles!

Election results for U.S. Presidential elections 1980- 2008 are most clearly explained by the X-Ray Eye horoscope analysis of Election Day. The U.S. Constitution sets the date for all Federal elections, thus nailing down the horoscopes for those campaign results from the very beginning. The course of U.S. politics is not totally the result of the clever negative TV ads afterall.

The unusual planetary positions of the Federal election days give a fascinating look into how the mood of the electorate is channeled by the timing of the calendar. The election results can be explained (or predicted) by the X-Ray Eye patterns and the Flux Tome Oracles that arise from them.

Fortunately, it is not necessary to go through the precise planetary positions or even the exact X-Ray Eye graphics to explain the election results. The patterns holding upon U.S. Federal Elections from 1980 to 2008 are extreme enough to make themselves clearly known with a minimum of technical detail.

I discovered the X-Ray Eye technique while spending 40 days alone in the Chaplin Barn (library and conference center of the Sabian Assembly) in the summer of 1980. I applied the new technique to the upcoming election of November 4,1980 during a radio interview in Chicago in October of that year. I was asked who would win the election. I replied that will be determined solely by the news headlines of the weekend before the election.

Nowadays the election results of the Reagan-Carter election of 1980 are interpreted differently. Current candidates denigrate Jimmy Carter saying he couldn’t get the U.S. embassy hostages out of Teheran, but in just 5 minutes Ronald Reagan did. That ignores the unpleasant details of the Iran-Contra Scandal.

Carter was pressuring the Iranian Ayatollah so hard, he took his revenge by holding the hostages until immediately after Reagan was inaugurated. This was not a sign of great power recognized in Reagan, only the objective proof of his campaign’s corruption. Reagan’s agents made a Devil’s bargain to use the hostages to win the election of 1980.

Agents for Reagan’s campaign (including George H.W. Bush, the VP candidate at the time) arranged the corrupt deal to let the Iranians influence the U.S. Presidential election by refusing all attempts by Carter to free the hostages. They only NEEDED to avoid any “October Surprise” where the hostages freedom would be seen as Carter’s success. But then, like all political deals other goodies were loaded on the basic package.

Of course, involving a presidential campaign in dealing with a hostile foreign power to delay the release of official U.S. diplomatic hostages is black letter treason. They added bribery and corruption using the promise of return of Iranian assets, sales of U.S. arms and spare parts to the Iranian military to sweeten the deal. To lubricate it further there was the addition of some quantity of Iranian oil to be delivered to U.S. oil brokers for their profit.

Winning may not be everything but election results are close enough for hard nosed politics. The extra money accumulated in the secret deal was used to fund the Nicaraguan Contra rebels without involving Congress (or obeying the laws outlawing such assistance). Reagan sought to balance this deal and punish Iran by allowing U.S. Agriculture Dept food assistance money be used to ship poison gas to Iraq to use against Iran.

This was seen as a win-win as Iran would be punished in its war with Iraq and the U.S. would be able to make friends with Saddam Hussein and also obtain useful intelligence on the effects of poison gas on the battlefield. No one other than Saddam was willing to do such things, so he became a close connection for U.S. secret military folks.

Another robust security measure allowed by stealing the 1980 election was the secret funding of the Muslim insurgents fighting in Afghanistan. The Saudi fellow who was organizing the foreign fighters coming into the fray, Osama Bin Laden was much appreciated by the Reagan CIA who gave him training and Stinger missiles since he was clearly a religious fundamentalist anti-Communist—or so CIA intelligence thought.

The election results of 1980 between incumbent Democrat President Carter, Republican challenger Reagan, (and independent John Anderson) are now famously known as the Reagan landslide which ushered in Republican control of the Senate (for the first time since 1954) and started the Reagan revolution. The electoral vote was 489 for Reagan to 49 for Carter.

At the time the election results were a total surprise to pollsters and campaign strategists. Even after the election it was seen as a massive repudiation of President Carter and his leadership rather than a true ground swell of support for Reagan. (Chicago Tribune Nov. 6,1980)

The election results were expected to be very close. The pollsters and pundits found all their data evenly divided between Carter and Reagan. The polling of the two campaigns showed the same results---candidate preference was dead even at 49% each for Carter and Reagan. However, there was massive discontent over the high inflation and resultant bad economy. The number of undecided voters was unusually high and the voter turnout was the lowest in 32 years at 52.9%.

Carter saw the last debate as being the cause of his downfall. The war-and-peace issue that Carter tried to raise in early October particularly dissipated after the debate in the week before the election.”“ Robert Strauss, the President’s campaign chairman said,’ the events of the last four days, the Iranian hostages, they came down on us’ The Reagan camp had worried that the prospective release of the American [diplomats held hostage in Teheran] would boost the President’s waning popularity…”(Chicago Tribune Nov. 6,1980 p.22)

It is now known that the Iran-Contra affair, secret negotiations of agents for the Reagan campaign, secured the agreement of Ayatollah Khomeni to refuse all Carter administration negotiations to free the hostages until after the election. As a result they were held 444 days and released to be met by then citizen Carter after Reagan was inaugurated.

Other factors at play in on election day are only hinted at in the news reports. Clearly dissatisfaction over inflation, job loss and other problems of the Carter era was growing.. However over the last days before the election personal frustration mounted. ”The pollsters are all wet because they thought they never understood the feelings of America right now. They think everything is yes and no. Well, it’s not.

Last night, in a couple of these joints, these neighborhood taverns, they went bananas. Yes, Democrats. They all stood up and sang ‘God Bless America.’…”Me, I’m a liberal, but you know what I did? I went out in the street and sang the first verse of the Marine anthem. It was just in me. It came out. That’s what came of all the of the people on election day---frustration. A need for an outlet. And the voting booth gave it to us. We voted in a new president.” (Dule Bingham quoted in an article “Election no surprise to ordinary folk” a close-up with Anne Keegan Chicago Tribune Nov. 6,1980 section 1 page 6)

The American electorate felt overwhelmed by a sense of a gut-level reaction to the news of the weekend, the lack of progress releasing the hostages, the frustration over President Carter and his four years in office. This swayed the undecided to vote for Reagan or not vote at all. The result was a conservative president with a Senate of his own party who could enact the new agenda he wished and later call it the Reagan Revolution.

As a result of the massive emphasis Reagan placed upon the hostages, a new phenomenon emerged among Muslim fighters—taking American and other Western males hostage for publicity and ransom. This became the hallmark of the Lebanon Civil War, culminating in the aftermath of Iran-Contra figure Ollie North’s shenanigans getting Terry Waite, the envoy of the Archbishop of Canterbury held hostage for a number of years.

A British woman journalist [Elizabeth Sly] was a witness to the beginnings of this process. A Muslim fighter asked her if she where knew any American or British citizens could be found since they were now worth one or two million dollars as hostages. She asked if she were in danger, and was told that only men would be taken hostage.

That is the reported background of the election of 1980. From here on let me focus just upon the X-Ray Eye and resulting Flux Tome Oracle interpretation. The planetary positions on Election Day 1980 were all in Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius and no where else. A total punch to the gut without any awareness of any Visions in the Clouds, anything individual Inside, Any Grounding in the World.

The immediate reaction to the news of the weekend before and through election day would determine the election results totally. The news was about continuing inaction with the release of the hostages, even that Carter Administration officials were taking the weekend off focusing upon the stalled hostage negotiations to work on the re-election campaign.

Not a word in the papers about the ongoing Iran-Iraq war which Reagan might get the U.S. involved in if elected. Certainly not a whisper of the deal in Teheran where Ollie North offered the Iranians many goodies and promises of better relations with Reagan as president if only they would refuse to negotiate anything with the current U.S. government.

The 1984 election was Reagan’s re-election campaign. Friends of mine in the financial markets noted that the economy was in poor shape but Reagan’s charisma seemed to be working to keep things from falling to their realistic levels. His re-election was seen as essential to keeping the façade of financial soundness intact.

In terms of the X-Ray Eye patterns, a unique change was taking place as Pluto was about move from the sign of Libra into Scorpio. In late October, a Chicago Tribune columnist wrote that Vanna White had been selected in a poll of high school girls as their favorite adult role model. No such poll existed or had even been thought of, but it felt right to the columnist.

I called this new pattern the Epoch of Vanna White. The outer planets, at least one of them had been in the signs from Taurus to Libra for over 150 years. For the first time they were all BELOW THE WAIST in the X-Ray Eye chart. This continued on election day 1984 with the moon in Aries, about to poke back above the waist the next day.

With nothing above the waist there would be no awareness of ideals or Visions Overhead. There would be no concern about Self or how things might affect you personally. Only below the waist issues of relationship and grounding in one’s background roots would matter. Reagan benefited from election results determined by the horoscope and cruised to an easy re-election landslide as everyone’s elder relative.

The election of November 8, 1988 was a bit more complex. Most planets remained Outside Below the Waist. However Mars was alone INSIDE causing an awareness of challenge through Intimate Initiative for the Prime Goal (Mars in the first degree of Aries). There was also Venus all alone ABOVE THE WAIST, almost directly opposite to Mars in Libra.

This unusual planetary pattern determined the election results through the X-Ray Eye Flux Tome Oracle: Sitting Son Chasing Rainbows with the lower trigram of felt desires changing from depths to flames. The sitting VP was seen as carrying on the vision to find the end of the rainbow of Reagan’s morning in America theme. The election results carried Bush to victory over the pedestrian reasonableness of Dukakis.

Clinton’s first election on November 3, 1992 involved planetary positions that had moved on a bit through the zodiac. Five planets were in Capricorn and Aquarius giving strong grounding in the world. Jupiter was all alone above the waist. This highlighted planet was in the 5th degree of Libra or Intimate Involvement in Harmony and Beauty in the style of: A teacher of the occult betrays his possession of real knowledge by the inspiration of his gathered students.

The X-Ray Eye oracle for that election result was Sitting Son to the Razor’ Edge. George Bush was now in big trouble. Clinton came in with many high hopes and his opponents found him terrifying like a Piped Piper about to lead their children to a better place. The attacks upon Clinton as the wrong kind of person doing things that weren’t proper started at once and intensified through his term.

Clinton’s re-election in 1996 had one of the simpler and less peculiar X-Ray Eye patterns. There were no planets in Cancer or Leo, no visions overhead, but other than that everything was spread out pretty evenly. Saturn the planet of depth and personal pain was retrograde inside in the 2nd degree of Aries: A comedian is entertaining a group of friends. The campaign of Bob Dole was filled with wit but nothing to put him in office.

The election results would be an expression of the X-Ray Eye oracle Plows going through all its stages (I Ching hexagram 34 with no moving lines). This brought Clinton his re-election but also continued the Republican control of Congress which would plow on with the various investigations until they could plow into a futile impeachment.

The election results of the 2000 election were known mostly for the Supreme Court result and not the outcome from the ballot box. When all the votes were recounted eventually (and privately) Al Gore had won the popular vote overall and also in Florida. But George W. Bush had managed to get his father’s Supreme Court picks to tip the balance in his favor in what is universally recognized as a totally political decision clearly marked never to be used as precedent.

The X-Ray Eye oracle arises from there being no planets in Cancer or Leo—no vision in the clouds yielding Hexagram 43 with no moving lines—Overwhelming as the powerful cat of entrenched power confronted the mouse of election results from the popular vote. The brute force of legal maneuvering with the Supreme Court filled with Bush senior and other Republican appointments would have their way.

The Bush 43 re-election on November 2, 2004 had an X-Ray Eye oracle of True Goaled >>Virgin Land. (Hexagram 14 becoming to hexagram 26 by the fourth line moving) This would be the election that allowed Bush to demonstrate the power of his campaign techniques and the election results to give him total control of the U.S government. The Sabian Symbol for that moving line is: “As if in a moment of vision a man is seen possessed of two heads; both of these look out and beyond the shadows.”

George W. Bush43 has his natal Mars in that exact same degree as the X-Ray Eye moving line zodiac equivalent. The election results were destined to give Bush all the freedom to fully express himself and his vision for the nation. Unfortunately, his is a totally tragic vision as he is now in the midst of unfolding. My comments on the Bush natal horoscope are available through the Sabian Astrology page.

The first step in the collapse from the heights of the Bush43’s re-election triumph began with the Congressional elections of November 7, 2006 which deprived him of his Republican controlled rubberstamp for whatever he wanted. In the 2006 election the planetary positions moved to have half the planets all in Scorpio the sign of Power and Passion. The other 5 planets were spread out to the corners of the X-Ray Eye leaving the fourth line place open.

The election results followed from the X-Ray Eye Oracle of Open Field >> Love’s Root (hexagram 9 becoming hexagram) 61 through the powerful expression of public power and passion to oppose what Bush43 was doing. The raw power of the President with a dedicated minority in Congress to thwart the clear will of the people becomes the story of this second Bush term.

The election of November 4, 2008 will be a simple X-Ray Eye pattern with no moving lines and planets in half the Zodiac. There will be a close opposition of Uranus Rx to Saturn which will define this massive change election. The Republican campaign will focus upon the ineffective Democratic control of Congress in hopes of turning this sentiment for change to their advantage.

However, by the time of the election President Bush43 will have made it totally clear it is his vision that is going one way and the will of the people another. The X-Ray Eye Oracle for the election results is again Plows (hexagram 34 without moving lines). However, unlike the Bill Clinton re-election this is not a gentle continuation of ongoing momentum. If Bush were running again, who knows what he might manage to pull out in campaign tricks. This time the momentum will be with the people demanding their voices be heard not for the politicians to keep plowing on.

The sharp rim of the opposition of Saturn to Uranus Rx which is near in X-Ray Eye placement to Neptune which will be Stationary--Retrograde turning Direct in the degree of a rug placed in a nursery to protect and delight the children. The leading edge of Uranus turned inward (Creative Genius for Feeling Tones in the style of: The window of the farmhouse yields its view of soft purple fields, and the table is set for a quiet supper).

In opposition to Saturn in Virgo ( Core Foundation’s Detailed Expression in the style of: “There is a colorful gallery on the warm summer day; in the clear blue water a swimming race nears its decision” The demand for electoral victory to bring PEACE and a return to domestic tranquility will be overwhelming in this upcoming election results.
